3rd.-That in the course of that Service he has been absent on leave on several occasions, at the dates and for the terms specified below, viz.: 1st-For 22 Months beginning on 30th June 1880 and ending on 19th April 1882 (4 months of which in vacation)
4th.--That provision has been made for the due execution of Mr. Adams' duties during his absence by Mr. or G. P. Jordan.
5th. That Mr. G. Adams having entered the service of the Colony before the 2nd June, 1871, (Colonial Office Despatch of 2nd June, 1871), is entitled, in accordance with Colonial Office Despatch No. 25 of the 9th March, 1862, to one-third passage allowance for himself and his family, not exceeding five in all.

Any Officer who may desire to forego a portion of his leave must obtain the previous permission of the Governor, or, if in Europe, must apply to the Secretary of State for permission to do so in sufficient time to allow of at least one clear month's notice being given to the Governor, should the Secretary of State approve; and on his arrival in the Colony, it must be understood that he cannot claim as a right to resume his own appointment before the expiration of his original leave, but must place himself at the orders of the Governor, who will make such arrangements for his re-employment and for his eventual resumption of the duties of his office as may be found possible.

Governors are to furnish every Officer proceeding on leave of absence with a duplicate of the despatch to the Secretary of State, reporting his leave, and a duplicate of the Certificate above mentioned; and an absent Officer cannot receive his half salary in this country, nor any extension of his leave, unless he produces such certificate.
130. On his arrival in this country, the Officer on leave must report himself, either personally or by letter, to the Colonial Office, producing or transmitting the Governor's despatch, and mentioning the place of his residence, and he must notify any subsequent change of residence. Treasurers and Auditors of Colonies whose accounts are subjected to Imperial audit, should also leave their address at the office of the Comptroller and Auditor-General.
